Unlike virtually all doctors, health care institution administrators, university administrators and teachers, Dr. Atlas was among the few who put his career and his life on the line by speaking out. Death threats against him were so severe that he required police protection.

The truth is, all of our institutions failed us (including most of the churches, including the LDS Church and its leaders and affiliated institutions) when facing the very real dangers that would and did arise when speaking out against our “wise and thoughtful leaders” who supported censorship, lockdowns, forced vaccinations, etc. during the Covid years.

As a Mormon, I always felt optimism concerning America’s future from Joseph Smith’s statement that the US Constitution might come to hang by a thread, and IF it is saved, it would be saved by the elders of the Church. We can now see that it is highly unlikely the elders would have the courage to ever act to save the Constitution. I am so weary of hearing about being peacemakers, of not being contentious, themes which are now frequently promoted and now almost universally adopted and defended among the leaders and general body of the LDS Church.

A few years ago when I suggested in an elder’s quorum meeting that we need to contend against evil, there was not a soul among the elders who would stand with me to contend against evil, which meeting included the man who shortly thereafter would become the stake president (replacing the stake president who had chastised those who opposed the Covid protocols, specifically masking). I was then labelled as being contentious because I opposed the groupthink now prevalent among the faithful. The lesson learned: go along to get along. Now I keep my mouth shut.
