In early 2014, Defending Utah ran a public design content, where multiple entries were submitted.

The winner was announced, and can still be seen here: https://99designs.com/logo-design/contests/create-logo-grassroots-liberty-group-371357

After its initial creation, the original logo was acquired from the contest winner (designer Ivan Nikolic), with payment made on April 9th, 2014 for $318 and official legal transfer of rights on April 30th, 2014.

The winning logo artwork was purchased and paid for individually by the founder of OWNER-ORGS.

Variations of the logo have been created by Defending Utah, under the financing and/or supervision of OWNER-ORGS. All variations which have become in common use are copyrighted by OWNER-ORGS under the Defending Utah brand, and can be found on this website going back to 2013.
