It took less than a month from the time we started investigating allegations against Utah’s My Tech High depriving parents of their rights (which got My Tech High a lot of public attention they didn’t want) that they decided to change their name to the new name of Open Ed.
That sure is convenient if your name is becoming less popular in the community of home schooling families that the system keeps trying to attach government strings to.
In fact, this is a tried and true Marxist tactic: rebranding the same operation when you’re losing effectiveness so the public forgets what you did in the past.
WILL THEY STOP THEIR HARASSMENT OF PARENTS?
Is it possible that after the rename, that the new “Open Ed” will try to act properly in pursuance of their duties as stewards of public funds?
The evidence already shows, they have no intention of honoring the rights of one parent’s story that we were following. In this case they’re continuing the same behavior and trying to force the parent to volunteer themselves away.
DEVIL’S ADVOCATE: BUT IS “MY TECH HIGH”/”OPEN ED” JUST FOLLOWING THE LAW?
When tyrants with alleged authority perpetually gaslight, acting as if they’re doing the right thing, it’s easy to start wondering: “maybe I’m wrong and they’re just doing their job”.
Since we published our first parent-first exemption form example in 2017, we have had countless successful experiences that each prove the system is in the wrong when they act this way, including the direct email from the head of Utah’s health department that was sent in 2017.
But just to add a cherry on top of this whole story, so you know you as the parent are on the right side if you choose to assert your rights, we’ll share the most recent experience we have (that is even after we published the original My Tech High article).
We just received this message from a DU reader of their experiencing submitting the exact same exemption form to a different school that “My Tech High / Open Ed” is pretending they’re not allowed to accept.
So why support authoritarians like Open Ed that ought to have a class action suit against them for abusing public funds, when there’s plenty of options like Harmony online and dozens of others we’ve experienced, that don’t even flinch at doing the right thing?

I noticed the name change as a participant in MTH. No fanfare or announcement. Seems like they’re hoping no one notices.
